Student Visa Information

The following information is just to give you an overview and it is important that you check the Canadian Visa requirements for your country at your nearest Canadian Embassy/Consulate before you register.

Short-term courses or programs

You do not need a Study Permit if you are planning to take a course or program in Canada with duration of six months or less. You may do so with Temporary Resident status as a visitor or a Working Holiday Visa. You must complete the course or program within the period authorized for your stay in Canada. If you do not have a valid Study Permit and wish to continue your studies, you will have to leave Canada in order to apply for one!

Courses and Programs longer than 6 months

You should apply for a Study Permit before you come to Canada, if you think you may wish to continue your studies in another program after you complete the short-term course or program, or you are planning to study for more than 6 months.

Receiving a Study Permit can be very time-consuming process, particularly because of the time required for medical clearance, so you should allow for this time when you register. In order to obtain a Study Permit, you will need a Letter of Acceptance from ALMA English Institute and it is a good idea to apply for a Study Permit as soon as you receive your LOA from ALMA. In some countries, you will also need proof of payment and a medical check-up before you are issued a Visa.
